⁓ this one always comes up. The scamming. And I wanted to bring it up again because it's all over the news again. And we ⁓ Anthony, when he was here the other day, got the call, got a call from it, one of the scams, and I was just like, That's a scam, that's a scam. Cause I could hear Anthony trying to first of all understand what this person was saying. And

And it wasn't even like a foreign accent, it was just not enunciating, like just like jumbled, like he had marbles in his mouth. And it was the the scam was saying that you didn't show up for jury duty and you're gonna be charged, and it's court, you have to go to court, like you, blah, blah, blah. And that's like what we were making out. And

Like a thought of why people do sometimes fall for these things, like when smart, intelligent people fall for these scams, because Anthony did just have jury duty. Like, yes, yes. And and I'm just sitting there going, like, stop talking. It's a scam. Hang up, it's a scam. But we were also on phone with

It's like they can find that out and and that's how they mark you.

The county for a couple other things that same day. So we were like, is this them calling back? Like, what is happening? So you could totally see how this can happen. But he he Anthony was so excited. He goes, Nope, nope, I know this is a scam. I know this is a scam because they actually paid me, they sent me the money because I was dismissed and did. And I'm like, Anthony, just hang up. But like,

Yeah, he was way too excited. Nope, nope, he I know this is a scam. I'm like after I'm sitting there going, hang up 'cause the guy couldn't even he couldn't enunciate. But ⁓

Man, I got an email

the other day that I almost fell for. It said something I ha about my American Airlines credit card, which I have one. And it was like, ⁓ I don't even know what it was saying, but it was like, click this link and I almost clicked it and I was like, Wait a second. So I copied and pasted everything and put it in chat GPT and it was like, that's a scam.

Yeah, you know, we went right to Google and asked about the scam saying jury duty and that is a thing. So the question was just how to protect from all these scams if you know people that are ⁓ smart and sane fall for them all the time. Remember that Andy Cohen story last year, a couple years ago? He so let's see, what did we say? A couple ideas for protecting yourself.

If if at all possible, get control of your parents' finances. I know that's really hard. It's so hard.

It's and sometimes you have to be a little untruthful about it.

It's just really scary how many people are falling for this. But it's just ⁓ some ways to protect yourself. Just just never ever send money or gift cards or crypto to anyone you don't know. Could you imagine? There was a story I remember the girl this woman was going to like she went to a convenience store and was trying to y they had a crypto exchange machine there. And thank God the lady working was like, There is no way this person has crypto.

Or is exchanging money for crypto and she wouldn't let the lady continue with the transaction. And I know that retail is training their people to recognize this stuff now. And banks, like you have to like jump through hoops to get your own money sometimes, which I think is all protection. ⁓

And that also says to like hang up and call your bank on your own and see if it was legit. Like anytime anyone's asking for a personal number of any sort, account number, social security, hang up. That doesn't happen.

Asking for that. I even have my credit on hold. So no one can like open up a credit card in my name. And ⁓ it's really easy to do. It's like one button. You log in to whatever credit company that is, I can't remember. And you just you can hit like the green button says put it on hold. And then when you need

credit. Like yesterday I was buying a car in my pool and I needed credit. So you just go to that website and unpause it, buy your car or whatever you're doing, put it back on pause.

to go back through episodes and see how many times you have said, I just bought a car from my phone in my pool.

Okay, and then ⁓ back to this. just secure your information, like set up your banking apps to require two factor authentic authentication and shred mail. When you get stuff in the mail, if you still get snail mail, shred things with your numbers on them, account numbers and everything. And

If you do ever get targeted, you can report it to the Federal Trade Commission website. And there's a National Elder Fraud Hotline. We'll put all that on the Instagram. Yep, there's National Elder Fraud Hotline And you can speak with someone. Or it if Yeah, if you did. You could report it and get help.

Well, now they have more protections in place. I guess I just saw a thing, I think it was on Threads, and it was about Sephora gift cards. They were being told to go buy Sephora gift cards. And whoever was commenting that Sephora should be like on top of this and ⁓ shame on them and you know, because they make their money if you buy that, so they don't care.

But then somebody replied and they showed Sephora's website and it was like if you are asked to buy gift card or something, it was like there was a warning like on their actual website. And I mean what yeah, and what else can they do? I mean, they are training retail ⁓ management to look for these kind of signs 'cause it's a fucking epidemic.

Okay. ⁓ this is a weird question. ⁓ I've been reading a lot about death with with dignity. How do you feel about it? And would you ever opt for this if it was legal in your state?

I mean, I'm a huge proponent for it.

I like it. But and I did go to ⁓ death with there's a death with dignity.org website and it tells you all kinds of stuff. You have to like find out if your state even is into it. But the you know, a lot of people will be interested in the Alzheimer aspect of that. And

it it it it doesn't really apply, which is

Not I'm not saying too bad because I would have like killed my mom, but we can't opt for that. Like if we get Alzheimer's. Like it says ⁓ on the website, it's there was they have a question section there. And it says, Can my family member or a proxy request participation in medical aid and dying on my behalf? For example, if I'm in a coma.

or suffer from Alzheimer's disease or dementia? And the answer is no. The law requires that you participate voluntarily on your own behalf and meet eligibility criteria at the time of your request.

She just went to the hospital. They just called me. They were like she's I don't even remember if she like fell or anything on that one. But she went to the hospital and it was she was just done. She was just done.

no, I mean she went into hospice right after that. Like from the hospital, we got hospice. And then there it's just comfort care. She wasn't eating. She probably hadn't been eating and drinking for a while. Like a couple of days. I think she just made up her mind to do that, honestly.
