You Forgot (00:43)
Hi Joanna. Hello. Welcome to the pod where two friends talk about Alzheimer's disease and their mommies and then their husbands.
Jojo (00:44)
Hello, welcome! Welcome to the pod, Sue.
Okay,
when someone realizes you have a podcast, what is your elevator pitch? I haven't memorized at this point what I say. When they're like, what's it about?
You Forgot (01:07)
I always just go, Alzheimer's, isn't that fun? And they like, they can stop in their tracks.
Jojo (01:11)
I always go, it's about Alzheimer's, but it's also about pop culture because Alzheimer's is depressing and we don't wanna be depressing.
You Forgot (01:18)
Yeah, yeah, I say those kind of things too. I just, yeah, it's just.
We're talking about our kids, dogs, husbands, travel, food, cooking, movies, and Alzheimer's because most people our age are going through some type of caregiving for somebody. So, yeah.
Jojo (01:37)
Correct. It's
us hard. Menopause and Alzheimer's.
You Forgot (01:41)
Okay real quick, don't want to spend any time on this, but I do have my appointment with functional medicine doctor because menopause is finally kicking my ass. Catching up with you in a little bit.
Jojo (01:53)
I'm so excited.
I mean, I'm not excited that it's kicking your ass, but I'm excited for you to go get it all figured out. You're gonna feel so much better.
You Forgot (02:00)
Yeah.
Yeah, my regular gyno just, they just didn't do like in depth, like, like the functional medicine takes like gallons of your blood and check everything. And I just didn't feel like, she was listening to me and, and I really, I, when they say, you feel agitated or depressed or mood swings? I'm like,
How has that been any different than the last 30 years? So I'm not sure what's what. Anyway, the last, I don't know, the last six months, I've just felt really stupid and like the brain fog and also that thing where things that you used to like, you don't care about anymore. And I just don't want to fall into that trap. I want to nip that in the bud before I'm...
completely apathetic to everything. Because that's not me. Yeah. ⁓
Jojo (02:45)
No, for real.
You're going to feel so much better. I just had my six month appointment with Cam and she was checking for things that my normal OBGYN doesn't check for. Like she was like, your DHEA is low. Well, sure enough, I forgot it's like a liquid I have to take every day. But I somehow brain fogged, thought I was only supposed to take it once a week and it's supposed to be really good for your brain. So like, I love that she was like.
You Forgot (03:10)
you
Jojo (03:13)
Girl, you need to take your DHEA every day. And I was like, oopsies, my bad.
You Forgot (03:16)
Okay.
I know, I can't wait to get like all the supplements and stuff.
Jojo (03:21)
I know the fact that she figured out that vitamin D in pill form wasn't good for me, but it wasn't just absorbing. But so now I take vitamin D liquid and it's working.
You Forgot (03:32)
All right. Okay, I'll keep everybody updated because I know they really care. We're gonna, this is probably our last episode until the beginning of the year, kind of a holiday hiatus as things just start to amp up in our worlds. So.
Jojo (03:36)
haha
Speaking of, I wrapped almost all my Christmas presents this morning and I put out my Christmas tree yesterday.
You Forgot (03:53)
Okay, I thought people did it like after Thanksgiving. That was early. Like, you're sweet. All right. I hardly bring anything out anymore.
Jojo (03:56)
Now I'm a November 1st girl.
You know, we bring out the stockings for the kids and we decorate the tree. And then we decorate our front porch. That's about it.
You Forgot (04:09)
Yeah,
I have a thing on my front door that my Denise Skowron quilted for me a couple years ago. It's stunning. it's like a banner, you know? And that's perfect. And she also made some table runners and stuff for me. I bring all that stuff, but I just don't do fun artsy craftsy displays anymore. Like I used to do
along this one picture ledge and the foyer. I would like make vases and fill it with garlandy stuff. And I would just spend a lot of time on that. And now I just don't see the point because I don't want to like, it's like putting it up and taking it down. And the house isn't full anymore. Like at Christmas time, we used to have an open house on Christmas Eve. It was all the neighbors.
Jojo (04:46)
No.
Yeah. Yep.
You Forgot (04:56)
all our friends and parents from the kids school and yeah, just things change.
Jojo (05:01)
Well, we put out, you know, we had the kids take pictures of Santa every year, same Santa, until he keeled over a couple of years ago. I know. So those pictures come out, but this year is extra fun because I got the best text from Sloan ever. I was like, this is my Christmas present Sloan. She said, hey, I'm bringing boyfriend home. Boyfriend, I don't know if he's from India, so I don't know what.
You Forgot (05:09)
GASP
Jojo (05:29)
religion he is, but he did mention that he's never had Christmas traditions. He's never done and he's always wanted like the quintessential Christmas and his family just doesn't do that. And she's like, can we make it like super special for him? And I'm like, are you kidding me? I was born for this. This was what I was made for. So Jeffrey has a stocking already. I just wrapped all of his stocking stuffers this morning. He has way more than any of the other kids.
We are going to go see Christmas lights in Highland Park. I've already scheduled it in a horse drawn carriage. I have reservations already for Hudson House on lovers because that's the cutest Christmas restaurant ever. And he asked for a traditional Christmas dinner the night he is here or one of the nights he's here. Like, duh. Like, this is my dream come true. Someone who's never experienced Christmas before is coming to my house. It's the best. Can't wait.
You Forgot (06:16)
Yeah, that's
That'll be really fun.
Yeah.
Jeffrey. I'm going to come investigate Jeffrey.
Jojo (06:22)
Jeffrey.
He should.
He's a nice kiddo. I like that guy. OK, can we talk about some things that had been coming up that we talked about before politically, like the election in Texas?
You Forgot (06:36)
yeah.
Woot woot! Prop 14, baby. Pass.
Jojo (06:40)
It passed,
it passed and we got so many messages from people saying they went out and voted for Prop 14, which created this new dementia Alzheimer's research fund, $300 million. I'm so excited. It's like finally something good happened.
You Forgot (06:58)
I know. And it was really awesome to hear back from listeners that were like, the people that did go vote but maybe just miss if that was on there. And like in the wording of the proposition, sometimes you don't know what's positive or negative. Like I had to cheat sheet the whole, what was their 15, 17 propositions. And they just, if you don't do your homework before you go,
It's very confusing and they probably.
Jojo (07:23)
Yeah, I don't
know why they can't write it more clear or maybe they're doing that on purpose.
You Forgot (07:28)
Well, think they, yeah, because, you I think it looks like people just went in there and wrote yes for everything because every proposition passed and there were some on there that probably shouldn't. a couple of them like hurt farmers, like overtaxing farmers, you know, it's like, come on. Not like they don't have enough to deal with right now. But yeah.
Jojo (07:37)
Yeah, that's weird too.
I know, but that was
a small win for us. And so thank you everyone for going out to vote for that and then letting us know that you did. It was just like such a, like a high for me.
You Forgot (08:00)
Tell everybody else what politically charged event we attended last week.
Jojo (08:06)
Okay,
so Sue sends me a text, which by the way, if you have a friend that's a seven on the Enneagram and you send any sort of event, you better already be committed to go because I'm gonna say yes, we're going. So Sue sent me something that said Beto or O'Rourke was gonna be in McKinney and I'm like, we're going, right? And she was like, yeah, we're going. So we went to this like random.
Indian music bar? Is that what it was?
You Forgot (08:32)
Yeah, I think on the weekends or evenings, it's like a dance club.
Jojo (08:37)
Yeah, I mean, seemed cool.
Not a lot of people were there. And so we got like one on one access with Beto O'Rourke and Sue basically charmed him. He fell in love with her and I think they're married now. I think that's what happened.
You Forgot (08:51)
I see that you have you were on a date with Beto also because the other pictures you have his full attention which really is just showing how delusional like like we are just the most delusional women because he just gives everybody that attention he listens he's he's a wonderful
⁓ organizer, he's welcoming and open and charismatic and all the things.
Jojo (09:23)
Charismatic
and just direct eye contact. He made us feel like we're best friends. We're joking about being Gen Xers. He's not even running for anything. I think he's just trying to keep the momentum going. And of course I ran into ⁓ my former principal there because he's at every democratic event and I just love him to death. Shout out George King, shout out Margie, his wife who was my 10th grade choir teacher. So it's always fun to see them.
You Forgot (09:29)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, the event was basically a little rally to get people interested in running for local offices and volunteering for the Republican Party here in Texas and in Collin County and what did I say? Did I?
Jojo (10:04)
You mean the Democratic Party? Republican?
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
You Forgot (10:10)
I'm gonna be cutting that out.
What the fuck, Sue? yeah.
Jojo (10:13)
Anyways, it was a super fun night.
We're gonna post the pictures, right?
You Forgot (10:17)
Heck yeah. I mean, you know I had a problem with my look that night. looked like, you know, I really tired and greasy hair, but well, as Beto.
Jojo (10:18)
Okay.
He was fine as ever.
You Forgot (10:29)
Like, yeah, he's inspiring and I have to hold myself back from signing up for volunteering to go to every college campus, because maybe I'll be able to do a couple and maybe we'll show up at one and get kids to sign up. I mean, I have no problem doing that. I can't door knock though. I can't do it.
Jojo (10:46)
I'm here.
I've door knocked before and I did not enjoy it and I'm a chatter and I didn't enjoy it.
You Forgot (10:54)
No, I can't do that one.
Jojo (10:57)
Well, let's sign up to do a college campus thing. That would be fun.
You Forgot (11:00)
All right. Let's, well, we have a couple questions from listeners we get this every year at this time But can you tell me a tale from the bus barn? Because I think that's what I've been waiting for all week.
Jojo (11:10)
I do have a Tales from the Bus Barn. Once again, it involves my little three year olds and they're just so funny and so cute and I don't wanna use their real names. So we're gonna call this kid Xavier. And keep in mind, I'm driving the bus. I have a monitor in the back and I can't see these kiddos cause they're so short. I can only hear the voices being launched into the ether.
I have a new monitor, my old one quit, which is sad, but the new one's sweet. She looks just like the grandma from Coco, the Disney movie, just like her. I hablas espanol because she does not hablas English. So we can kinda still communicate. So I was trying to explain to her that with the babies, we set them one per bench, but I don't think it translated. So she was sitting them beside each other.
You Forgot (11:40)
Yeah.
Jojo (11:55)
which I was like, I'm not really sure how this is going to go because they've never sat with another kid. All of a sudden I'm driving, it's dark outside, it's early morning and I hear I have one kiddo, we're going to call him Xavier. He is very verbose and articulate. It's almost like I'm not, I'm not going to share like why he's on a special needs bus, but I think we all know he's very talkative. he just, I just love him to death.
And so I, out of the blue, hear, excuse me, why did you just hit me on my head? And I'm like, no, what happened? And then I hear, excuse me, why are you even on my bus? And I'm like, and he's not getting a response. So I'm like, she must've sat one of the nonverbal kids with him. And he's just reading this kid to filth. Excuse me, who do you think you are? And then I hear,
Could you please chill out? And I just know he's heard that from his mom and I'm dying to know who he's sitting next to. So we finally get to the preschool. I quickly unbuckle to go see like who is sitting by him. No one was sitting by him. He was just having an imaginary moment. Reading his imaginary friend to filth.
laughing when I saw that he was sitting by himself.
You Forgot (13:10)
God, these kids. He was just like getting something out of his system before he went into that school.
Jojo (13:15)
Yeah.
Why do you think you're on my bus?
You Forgot (13:18)
Why are you sitting next to me?
Jojo (13:20)
Sitting there. Why'd you hit me on my head?
You Forgot (13:23)
So no one's touching them, no one's looking at them, no one's nothing.
Jojo (13:23)
So good.
He was by himself.
You Forgot (13:26)
Is that plus full or like
Jojo (13:29)
In the mornings we have eight kiddos and in the afternoon we just have four.
You Forgot (13:31)
Ouch.
Like did their parents pick them up or did they go on? ⁓
Jojo (13:36)
No, because it's like a half day situation. So in the morning
I have different kiddos than I do in the afternoon. Yeah. Yeah.
You Forgot (13:41)
I see what you're saying.
I love the tails from the bus barn.
Jojo (13:47)
I mean, it's just so entertaining. like, how am I getting paid for this? I would do this for free.
You Forgot (13:51)
Nah.
Jojo (13:52)
Okay, do you have or do you want to do questions or favorite things?
You Forgot (13:56)
Yeah, let's do the questions. We'll save the favorites for the fun exit. These were both emailed to our email, which is youforgotpodcast.gmail.com. If you have questions, comments, suggestions, and yeah, if you have suggestions for like episodes that we can do or dive into a topic, let us know because.
My daughter actually sent us one this week. I know, that the topic was, it was, it's something that I would have to spend a lot of time researching before I spoke on it. Cause I'm sure there's like eight sides about it. It was kind of, yeah. It was a little conspiracy theorists kind of stuff, like, but Alzheimer's though.
Jojo (14:22)
Love that!
Okay.
I'm down. Okay.
You Forgot (14:43)
⁓ okay, this listener, I'm just going to like paraphrase. she says it's her first year that her mom is in memory care. Her dad wants to visit and spend all his time with her. Thanksgiving's coming up and they want their dad to join with the family to be with his grandkids and her other siblings that are coming into town. mom's not going to be able to join this year. She's going to definitely stay at memory care. They don't want to disrupt that.
But they don't want their dad to miss out on all this family time. But he's insisting that he's gonna spend the day with the mom.
Jojo (15:17)
and they want to know what to do.
You Forgot (15:19)
yeah, sorry. But yeah, like how do they handle, do they let him go? They for, like what do you, I don't know.
Jojo (15:24)
I don't
know, this seems pretty simple. Let dad do whatever he wants to do.
You Forgot (15:29)
Yeah, it's like.
We just keep learning about how all these decisions when you're dealing with someone in memory care, you just gotta be a little more fluid than maybe you were in the past. And maybe you could set up a different special time for dad to visit with other siblings and grandkids. Because.
Jojo (15:46)
I mean, I get
it. I do get the idea that it is hard. Your mom's not gonna be there. You're trying to hold on to any sort of semblance of normalcy, but you got, I'm sorry, it's not normal anymore. It's just not.
You Forgot (16:00)
And maybe think about it from dad's perspective, like he spent the last Thanksgiving's with his wife or, know, who knows how long and he would maybe feel too guilty or whatever. And
Yeah, it's sad.
Jojo (16:15)
Maybe you could even bring like a little meal up to the memory care place too.
You Forgot (16:21)
Yeah, yeah, she doesn't go into any detail about the mom's state.
Jojo (16:27)
Well, I can tell you right now, we are gonna be out of town for Thanksgiving. So is Deborah's. So I hope my mom's place does it up great, because we're not even gonna be here.
You Forgot (16:36)
Yeah, I know it's so, it's so hard because you feel guilty, but they don't know what day it is.
Jojo (16:45)
They do not know, at least at this stage, she has no idea what Thanksgiving is, who I am, so I'm gonna go live my best life.
You Forgot (16:53)
Yeah. So I think we let dad do what dad wants to do. And that would suck though. You already lost your mom to this and then dad doesn't want to be there for this big family gathering.
Jojo (17:08)
I always say like this, I'm a reframer, but the silver lining of all of this with my mom is that she was not married when we went through all this. I just think it's so much harder when your mom is married to your dad and then you have to deal with both of them. Like it's just so much. And your parents were divorced, but it was still like, was it still hard?
You Forgot (17:27)
Yeah, that's all.
safer than yours.
Jojo (17:33)
because they were both alive or they were just like super divorced?
You Forgot (17:37)
Yeah, no, it didn't matter at all. I mean, was, you no. No, their relationship didn't come into play with any of the caregiving, because my dad got sick like years before my mom. you know, which I said this before, I feel like I've lost, I missed out on a ton of symptoms of my mom's like early symptoms because I was so focused on my dad.
Jojo (17:39)
Okay.
Yeah.
You Forgot (17:59)
I don't know how much they would have changed how anything went down, but yeah, it's hard.
Jojo (18:06)
I
cannot believe you had to do this with both parents. Like, I can't even imagine that.
You Forgot (18:11)
Yeah, well, maybe I'm not God's favorite.
Jojo (18:13)
Well, I mean, another reframing moment. My dad died of like a massive heart attack, like alive and then dead. And even though that was shocking, it's not a bad way to go for everyone involved.
You Forgot (18:24)
I know, I know. I, sometimes, actually we have an episode like in the planning stage, it'll be for next year about, there's a lot more of the right to die stuff coming up and people that are like, I'm done and don't want to go through another cancer treatment or whatever. they're figuring out what states allow this and how to do it. And.
Jojo (18:25)
It was just like, boom, dead.
You Forgot (18:47)
telling their family that they're gonna do it. I read a couple really interesting articles, so that'll be fun to get into.
Jojo (18:52)
You know what? I would love to get an expert on and I don't even know what that looks like, but I would love someone like who is either a law expert or a doctor to talk to us and like educate us about that.
You Forgot (19:01)
Right.
I bet we can find one before then. okay. So yeah, I think you just got to let go of the guilt, realize things are changing, try to make the best of it. Focus on the little kids or you know, your kids and stuff and hook up with dad later. okay. Here's another one. I don't, there's no name. It's like a
lettery thing. But anyway, it says my mom always gifted her grandkids the most thoughtful presents. They were personalized and the kids really got used to getting these incredible gifts from my mom every year. She's aging and that won't be the case this year. Do I pretend she still picked these gifts out and sent them to the kids to keep that memory alive?
Or are we honest with them that grandma just can't do this anymore?
Jojo (19:47)
Ooh, I think it depends on the ages of the kids. Your kids were littler when your mom was going through this.
You Forgot (19:53)
Yeah, I did a couple years of lying. Yeah, I said, yeah.
Jojo (19:56)
Yeah. Which makes...
It makes sense when they're little.
You Forgot (20:00)
Yeah, yeah, even when Anthony's dad was, he was really sick. He didn't have dementia or anything, but his health just plummeted and he couldn't go out and get them stuff. So I would get them like the gift cards of stuff that I remember one year got them the, what's that skydiving thing that you did? The indoor skydiving.
Jojo (20:20)
that indoor
skydiving.
You Forgot (20:22)
Yeah, like I went out and got the gift cards from grandpa because they were talking about, know, stuff like that. But. I don't know, did you ever did you have to do this at all?
Jojo (20:31)
No, so my kids were older, like high school when we started going through this. I was, they just kind of got it. Like my mom used to give them really great gifts. And that was one of those early signs that we didn't catch onto that she was spending so much money on Christmas. And we were like, she doesn't have that kind of money, but we were also like, those are pretty great gifts. So it was kind of like, just stuff it down. How was she paying for this? Well, she wasn't. She was in major credit card debt because of dementia.
But yeah, they understood once she moved into memory care, like they weren't getting gifts from her anymore. And they had to process that in their own way, I guess.
You Forgot (21:07)
Yeah.
Yeah, I guess you're right. It's just like the kid thing, because also I remember doing it and then like, why? Like, I don't know. just, ⁓
Jojo (21:16)
You're just
trying to, once again, keep something like normal for the kids, for you. I get it.
You Forgot (21:23)
Yeah.
Maybe it's time to like start new traditions.
Jojo (21:26)
And I also don't think we give kids enough credit for how much they can handle.
You Forgot (21:31)
Yeah.
Yeah, no, I just got, I just zoned out because I was thinking about Denise Scowron that just passed last year. She quilted, right? And she would quilt all these gifts and, you know, we're not getting them anymore. We're not going to get them this year. And when I was there with the funeral, her granddaughter was 11 at the time or 10. And she was very quiet.
She did not want to talk about it because they were close and all that stuff. But then I was at her house after like funeral weekend and she took me through her bedroom and it was like, grandma made those curtains. Grandma made this quilt. Grandma made this. She made that. And I was just like, she has all these memories. She's literally wrapped up in the things that her grandma made her. And she has those forever.
She understands, you know, and maybe she'll start quilting someday. She is super crafty. She's like artistic kid. She's amazing. So maybe she'll carry that tradition on.
Jojo (22:34)
Yeah, I love that.
You Forgot (22:35)
I know. She was so sweet. She's like, grandma made this, grandma made this. Yeah. And I mean, it was good stuff. She made me a quilt when I got married. She made a quilt for Marta's birth, Jude's birth. mean, fantastic stuff. And I get to have all that. So hopefully these special gifts that their grandma was sending them, they can just, you know.
Jojo (22:40)
Love that.
great.
You Forgot (22:57)
They'll hold special meaning forever.
Jojo (22:59)
Yeah.
You Forgot (23:00)
See, this is what we're talking about. Like, we try to keep it light and then we're like, wha?
Jojo (23:04)
was thinking about the Cutco knives my mom bought me that last year.
You Forgot (23:08)
I
So stupid. okay. We'll, ⁓ we'll just seg into favorite things because this is kind of a favorite thing or advice for people that are spending time with their parent that has dementia. Okay. So my Snapchat memories came up this week and let me see. What does it say?
think it was like nine years ago. My mom's gone like eight years or so. Okay, so we were at a new doctor's office and I remember distinctly she was like, this guy is so handsome. I was like, mom, but we were in the waiting room and we were playing with Snapchat. And I mean, look at these.
Jojo (23:33)
Eight years. Yeah.
⁓ the animal filters, I'm dying.
You Forgot (23:52)
Yeah. And
like, so this one, like we look like a deer and then that was like an old crazy lady, you know, and this one's Marie Antoinette looking hair? I'm going to... But she loved it. And I mean, it was such like, look at her eyes, like how blue. It was such a moment of levity, like an alien.
Jojo (24:00)
⁓ my gosh!
the things we do to entertain our parents.
Yes!
my gosh.
Love it.
You Forgot (24:21)
So I'll post these. I mean, what is that? That's like a sexy lady. And she's wearing, see the coat she's wearing? We've talked about that several times. There might be a bra under that jacket, but there's definitely not a shirt.
Jojo (24:27)
Yep. Yep, there's her coat.
You Forgot (24:34)
So, like I just, if you have Snapchat and you wanna play with your parent, friend, whatever, whoever you're caregiving for, it was so fun. I never in a million years would have thought she would have liked it.
Jojo (24:48)
That's a good little tip for me, because I still don't know what to do with my mom every time I go see her.
You Forgot (24:51)
And I really think it's something that previous mom would have hated. mean, this made her look like the one picture makes you look very ugly, really like all deformed. And she was howling because it was like, it's instant. You're you're looking like that's me, but that's not me. So it's really funny. ⁓ A little tip, snappy chatty. You have a favorite things too.
Jojo (24:57)
Yes.
Okay.
I It started, so this is what our weekends look like now because we're so used to waking up at 4.30. I slept in on Saturday till 6.30, which was glorious. It felt so good. But then we're like up and we're like raring to go. By 6.30 on a normal day, I'm almost done with my route. So we were like, what are we gonna do? And I was like, I just heard, ⁓ you know what, my.
Hong Kong brother Ben texted us in the middle of the night, because time change over there. He was like, you guys have to watch Pluribus on Apple TV Plus. There's two episodes out. He was like, this is, it's living up to all of the reviews and the hype. And so we're like, okay, so we're kind of looking it up. it's created by Vince Gilligan, who did Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, which are Matt's very favorite TV shows of all time.
And Vince Gill, again, if you're not familiar with his work, he's really good at creating scenes without any dialogue that tell a complete story. He's really good at doing little switches to familiar tropes, in this case, like alien invasion or viruses or whatever. And he adds some comedy to it, so it's not so overbearingly scary or violent. There's just a little hint of comedy in there.
It just released November 7th, which is just a couple days ago. Two episodes are out. They come out every Friday now. And then the season finale will be December 26th. So it's going to be quite a quick little series. But let me just give you a little background about this. It's going to it's a sci fi psychological thriller. The title is Pluribus. So I think that's a reference. Matt was like, what does Pluribus mean? And I was like, it must mean like something like.
You know, pluribus unum, which means of the many one. So pluribus means many. And that's going to it's really cool the way he titled that because it captures just the theme of the whole show, which is the tension between being an individual and then being a collective identity. So I won't give it all away, but you could definitely read what the synopsis is about. And I don't really know what's going to happen. only watched two episodes. But basically what happens is the world is hit.
by this extraterrestrial virus, which for me as a biology teacher, I was already like, oh yes, I love it. Cause they get into the RNA of it and how the RNA came from outer space. And it infects everyone pretty rapidly to where everyone is happy and content and like lovely and they don't kill animals anymore. And they're all vegetarians. And it seems like a perfect world. However, there are 11 people
that are immune to this virus. And the lead protagonist is a character named Carol Sterka. And if you watched Breaking Bad, she's the lead character in Better Call Saul Her real name is Rhea Seahorn. She's fabulous. And basically her biggest character trait is that she's grumpy. She's like grumpy and miserable all the time. So it's this wonderful dichotomy of this whole world being happy and she's like sick of it.
She's like, guys, wake up. She just hates everyone. The tagline of the show is the most miserable person on earth must save the world from happiness. It's so good. It's so good.
You Forgot (28:32)
my God.
We are watching it tonight.
Jojo (28:37)
It's so good. cannot wait to hear what you I mean, and the way he just creates these scenes like the first scene in episode two is about 20 minutes without dialogue. But it tells the story of what's going on, not in America, but like in the other side of the world, where there's people that are immune and people that are dead. And one thing that's really funny in the show is every time she loses her temper, the whole world that's infected with this virus freezes.
And in the process, like people die, because if they're driving a car and they freeze and they crash, they die. And so she's like, she can ask someone. I know I won't give it all away, but there's someone she can ask questions to. And she's like, oh my God, did people die the last time I lost my temper? And she was, yeah, 11 million people died. So it's like, then it's like, oh shit, I can't lose my temper. She's got to try to stay happy.
You Forgot (29:17)
Okay.
No.
You have to try to stay happy.
Jojo (29:31)
but then also try to save humanity. It's so good.
You Forgot (29:34)
No, it sounds great. I've been seeing the commercials for it and it, like you can't tell what it's about, right? Like the commercials are just kind of like, they don't give anything away, but it, like the people involved, it already seemed like a must watch.
Jojo (29:49)
It's getting like rave reviews and I would say, you know, my love and passion for Severance, this is better. It's better than Severance.
You Forgot (29:59)
I never finished Severance. know, I try. I think I'm just dumb and just like, well, you know, I'm intolerant and I'm apathetic right now. Maybe after I get some hormone replacement therapy, I'll be able to watch that again.
Jojo (30:01)
I can't, you know, you can't like everything.
We're going to chalk that up to menopause.
Well, I
always say the only reason I could watch it and understand it is because I would watch it with Jack and he would explain it to me.
You Forgot (30:24)
⁓ yeah, let's see. And you know, Stranger Things is coming back and me and my son watched that and now I won't have him. I asked him, will you wait for me? He's like, probably not mom. I'm like, ugh. But you know what, I will see him at Thanksgiving and depending on when it comes back, I don't know. Shouldn't be talking about it, but it's sooner than later.
Jojo (30:26)
Yeah.
I
I think it might
be this week, because I know Matt just rewatched the last season so that he could be up to date.
You Forgot (30:49)
⁓ gosh, I will see Jude soon. Jude, guess what?
Jojo (30:53)
Well, know, ⁓ our tradition
when any new Stranger Things came out, I would let the kids stay home from school. I would get a substitute. We would blow up an air mattress. I would bring in all the snacks and we would rot and watch the whole season in one day.
You Forgot (31:10)
Without Matt?
Jojo (31:11)
⁓ no, maybe he was there too. I should remember that, but.
You Forgot (31:15)
No, yeah, no, this one was just me and Jude. I don't know how that happened, but I'm thankful. ⁓
Jojo (31:22)
Okay,
yeah, you guys gotta watch that over Thanksgiving. I'm almost 100 % sure it'll be out.
You Forgot (31:26)
Okay, I have a favorite things too
Jojo (31:30)
Okay, tell.
You Forgot (31:30)
The Lucas Gage book.
Jojo (31:32)
⁓ yeah. Not yet, not yet.
You Forgot (31:33)
Did you read it yet?
Okay, Lucas Gage, you don't know, is a young actor, writer, producer, best known for his role in The White Lotus, and boy was that a role. He was in You on Netflix, he was on Euphoria, How to Blow Up a Pipeline, Down Low.
which he co-wrote and stars in. And he's also in that remake of Roadhouse and a bunch of stuff. He has a nice little resume, but he has a memoir, which is early. I mean, he's 30 maybe, but it's so good. It reads like a novel.
Right? It just seems like a, like a coming of age novel. this is one description, a riveting and heartwarming memoir by the actor of white Lotus and euphoria that details his upbringing in the West coast, including a broken family struggles with addiction, sex, borderline personality disorder, and his commitment to being the center of attention at all times, even as he actually became a star.
It's great. It's called, I wrote this for attention. He kind of embraces the whole, his personality of being a little attention whore. He talks about being three and four and just being a menace in his house and, you know, wants attention. has older brothers that dealt with addiction. I mean, to the point where missing for months and the mom would find out, you know, and then rehabs and like there was like some friends.
deaths and just like all the things. It was just kind of like a broken house. And if you remember Lucas Gage is the kid during COVID that was doing a Zoom audition and the one in the
producer started making fun of his apartment, And so he went viral for that. And,
You know, but he's a great he's a good actor and everything, but the book's really great. And just talking about, being young and running around with his friends, stealing handles of vodka and cough syrup and just doing the dumbest shit. And he talks about being like the horniest child in the world. He was always like he was obsessed with like getting his first kiss, having sex, like obsessed.
Jojo (33:48)
Okay, did you
listen to this or did you read it?
You Forgot (33:51)
I listened to it and it was a pleasure. He reads it and...
Jojo (33:54)
Okay, okay, I will.
You Forgot (33:58)
I don't know, he's great. I heard him on a podcast talking about the book and it just sounded really interesting
he ended up being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and it explained a lot of his behavior in childhood. another crazy thing. you know how Paris Hilton was like taken in the middle of the night to like some camping rehab thing or like she went to a school.
Jojo (34:17)
Yeah.
You Forgot (34:19)
He was taken in the middle of the night and it was one of those outdoor survival things.
Jojo (34:25)
Jesus.
You Forgot (34:26)
I mean, he was young 13 or something. Yeah. But yeah, I mean, and but he's so goddamn charming too. Like he got out of a lot of, he probably could have gotten a lot more trouble, you know?
Jojo (34:27)
Talk about trauma.
crazy.
Yeah. Okay, well,
I'm down. I'm gonna listen to that.
You Forgot (34:41)
Yeah, it's good. I wrote this for attention. Yeah, he's gonna have like, he could write a lot more novels. Well, it's not a novel.
Jojo (34:44)
Lucas Gage.
Sloan
loves everything he's in.
You Forgot (34:50)
Oh yeah, I'm sure. You, euphoria.
Jojo (34:54)
Euphoria, yeah, white lotus.
You Forgot (34:56)
White Lotus. You know, after reading this book, I'm like, I'm gonna go rewatch season one of White Lotus. Because, I mean, he killed it. He was a dirty boy.
Jojo (35:05)
Yeah, it was. Ooh, the new season of White Lotus is gonna be set in Paris in the south of France. as a travel advisor, we always see an uptick in bookings for wherever White Lotus is set. there are, my host agency is already sending out emails like, just prepare yourself, there will be specials going on. Everyone's gonna be in the south of France next year.
You Forgot (35:11)
Hurry.
Okay, I just have to say something. If anyone is tuning into this episode for the first time, you sound like a fucking like Renaissance woman. You are driving a bus, you're a biology teacher, and now you're a travel agent. Like you're just like you just talked about all these careers in one episode.
Jojo (35:46)
Well, this is what happens when you're like a seven and you're like, I can do, yeah, I'll do that. Oh, you want me to be a flight attendant? Okay, I'll be a flight attendant for 10 years. Whatever. You want me to teach biology? Yeah, I'll teach it for 14 years.
You Forgot (35:52)
I know, I just... It sounds hilarious.
It just sounded so funny.
Jojo (36:03)
I can't, like I'm
curious about a bunch of different things and it's honestly a pain in the ass.
You Forgot (36:08)
I know, but if you were like listening to this first time, you're like, okay, she's a travel agent that drives a bus. But now she's she's talking about the RNA and or whatever the fuck you're talking about with your biology cells. And I love it. I love it.
Jojo (36:22)
Yeah, you
know, and that's the funny thing is I never know what I'm going to do next. It's like a surprise to me too.
You Forgot (36:27)
I think it's awesome.
Jojo (36:28)
It's exhausting.
You Forgot (36:30)
And you're a podcaster. Let's not forget that.
Jojo (36:31)
And I'm a podcaster.
Yep. Sure enough.
You Forgot (36:34)
Well, on that note, Miss I can do anything. The valedictorian of everything.
Jojo (36:37)
Hahaha
are just barely doing enough. Sometimes that's what I feel like I'm doing, just barely enough.
You Forgot (36:45)
No, no, no,
that's the that's the that's the thing you do all the things. Like at a high level, like you don't you're not half asked about anything like that's.
Jojo (36:53)
And that's called anxiety, people. And
that's why my Christmas presents are already wrapped, because I have anxiety.
You Forgot (37:02)
Speaking of anxiety, the Grammy nominations came out this week too. And Dochi got a ton of them for that song.
Jojo (37:10)
I cannot
wait for her to win everything.
You Forgot (37:14)
I hope she performs again. love watching her. You know, she was here in Texas a couple weeks ago and I missed it. It was like a school night. Not that I have kids in school anymore, but it was, it was inconvenient. But then I saw videos of her at like the bar, like an Oak Cliff or something like up on the stage, like singing and drinking champagne. She seems fun.
Jojo (37:19)
⁓ shoot.
I get the best vibes from her. Yeah. All right. Well, so we're going to be out of town. You're going to be out of town for Thanksgiving. I'm out of town for Thanksgiving. Then I'm out of town the week after Christmas. Are you in town for Christmas?
You Forgot (37:37)
beyond.
I'm...
I believe so. I don't think we've made plans yet. I feel like we'll be here.
And God forbid that the government's not open by then, like we're not gonna be flying anywhere.
Jojo (37:52)
Yeah.
I really think it's gonna open before Christmas. just, don't know why, but I really, think this crunch time of, know, FAA is now shutting down 10 % of flights. Like people are not, you know what they always say, once it starts affecting private planes, that's when it ends. The rich people are not gonna put up with that shit.
You Forgot (38:17)
Yeah, it, I feel like this week there's going to be some decisions made because it's, it's too transparent why they're not opening. That girl has been elected for what? Six weeks. Okay.
Jojo (38:21)
I do too.
Eight weeks, eight weeks now.
Yeah.
You Forgot (38:31)
Like, let's just get this over with. Let's give us all that Christmas present to unwrap those files, you fucks. Jesus. I'm like, I don't care who goes down.
Jojo (38:33)
Let's just get it over with.
I don't care either. all know Bill Clinton's in that and I want him to go down. Take him. Whoever's in that. I don't care.
You Forgot (38:48)
Take him! Take him! I still, I hate him for what
he did to No, I still, I don't like him for what he did to fucking Monica. She was 21 years old. And you know, when we were, when that was happening, I didn't think about age or whatever, but think about our daughters at 21 being completely.
groomed, taken advantage of.
Jojo (39:09)
Manipulated.
Yeah, I hope that fucker goes down.
You Forgot (39:14)
I spit on you.
Jojo (39:15)
I spitted.
You Forgot (39:19)
All right,
Jojo (39:20)
Alright, we'll reconvene
in January.
You Forgot (39:23)
Yeah, that's kind of sad. Well, it's not like I won't talk to you.
Jojo (39:25)
I know I
just want to say I'll probably text you in five minutes.
You Forgot (39:28)
And yeah, I'm sure we'll have time to record and get some episodes going, but we're just not gonna like.
make it a commitment that I can't uphold because that makes me feel bad. Being sporadic. I like to be on a schedule.
Jojo (39:36)
Choo Choo Choo
I do too. Love a schedule. All right.
You Forgot (39:42)
Okay, happy holidays. Ho, ho,
You ho.
Jojo (39:50)
And.
