We have a new setup. We're in our studio known as Jack's Room. We're using his mics.

and his background. We have an audio interface. We're so professional. I don't know. We should just go live. Honestly. Wait, can you do that on this thing? yeah. How would anyone watch this?

Okay, well the reason we're in Jack's room is because my kiddos are back in college. We're finally back to being empty nesters again. It was great having them home. I'm not diabolical. Love those kids to death. But it was time for them to go. Yeah, it gets a little much. Much in terms of space, in terms of the fact that our upstairs shower is not working right now, so all four of us are sharing one bathroom.

in terms of groceries. I mean it's just a lot with four adults in this little tiny house. not to mention that we were sharing two cars between four people because Sloane left hers in DC. How did that go? Honestly fine because I don't really go anywhere and let I mean to the store it's not like I have to be anywhere. I work from home.

So it honestly worked out fine. The real sticky issue was Sloan goes to the gym every day, but Jack doesn't go anywhere either. So it's really Sloan's car and Matt's car and me and Jack just didn't go anywhere. Hmm. I think I may get a new car. I know what's going on. Okay, tell us about your car situation. Tell us about a Marta update if you want to. yeah, my kid is finally moving to New York City.

That's it. I don't know what to say about it. It's such a, she's got a job as an executive assistant to this film producer artist. This guy looks like he has his little mitts and everything. So we'll see. We'll see how it goes. It's a legit job. She's gotten a legit apartment. Yeah.

I'll be, next week I'll be really happy about it. I'm like nervous now because I have to do like the logistics with like the moving. And I know people move in New York City all the time, but it's not like, you know, getting in the car, unloading your car on the street. It's like hard. It's yeah. It's just like moving on steroids because you're going to have to walk over to the target, grab shit, walk it back to the apartment.

There is a company Marina told me like, I think it's called lug. It's kind of like an app thing. You know, you can like dial up people and that will come like task rabbit. Yeah. And if we like buy something on like Facebook marketplace or something, they'll go get it.

and deliver it and stuff. You could take my dog stroller. It's real roomy. Sometimes if I'm feeling like overachiever, I'll walk it to the grocery store that's like literally point nine miles away, do my grocery shopping, walk it back home. I used to do that with the kids stroller. Just walk to the grocery. Yeah. We're so urban.

I used to have an Albertsons right behind me and every time I'd like walk over there Stephanie would be like, you're so urban. I'm like, why would I drive around the corner? Like it was around the corner. With this setup, I feel like for that SNL skit. You know what I'm talking about? The NPR skit? Then we talk about meatballs. Yeah, everything has like an innuendo though.

my gosh, Sloan moved back to George Mason for her last semester. It's really weird. Now I understand what Sue felt like when Marta was her senior year because I don't know where she's going to be in January. I don't, I don't know. And I have no control over it, which is hard for me to grasp.

It's weird because I mean, I remember that time, that floundering time, and you feel like every decision is so crucial and everything and it's really not. Maybe it was for me and you back in the day because we didn't have any kind of fallback. We had no support.

It was like, were on our own. I just had to get any old job I could get when I graduated from college, which ended up being a church secretary. You were a church secretary? For my cousin who was a pastor. He hired me. I was like, I need any old job, but I have to work. So yeah, I was a church secretary for like six months and then American Airlines hired me.

Marta did talk about being a flight attendant. I hope that we... It's still an option. Yeah, she's so funny. But I feel like she's really happy about this move. She was trying to do New York City last year or soon after graduation, but then she had a couple other opportunities that she thought would be worth pursuing, know, stack that resume and everything.

No, we'll see. We'll see. It's funny, like, thinking a year from now, who knows what I'll be saying about Sloane. She's probably going to be living in the same building as Marta. She does want to end up in New York City. She is a city girl. I know she does not want to come back to Texas, so we'll see. My kids will never be in Texas again.

I have one kid that will never be in Texas. Jack loves him some McKinney. He McKinney through and through. I, you know, not to shit on Texas. It has been great to raise my children. But right now the thought of those children getting pregnant here or something terrifying, terrifying, terrifying. If I had any control over it, I would not allow it.

But I don't know. mean.

the laws, I don't know, that's just a whole other bit. It's true. My kids are both in the corner of we're not having children, they're too expensive and we really want to travel and just have a dog, which I'm fine with. Yeah, I think both mine threaten to have kids. I mean, my son, he just kind of just like assumes, yeah, I will. Like that's just, yeah, that's in my future. Yeah. And

My daughter too, but she never sits there, she does not enjoy, she doesn't dislike kids, she was not like number one babysitter in the neighborhood, nothing like that. and Sloane are so similar, Sloane never babysat, never wanted to, she likes kids, she just doesn't want to own a kid. More just like certain kids. true. my god, these kids would be fucking cute and smart. They would be cute and smart and clean.

Like she always liked our cousin Gus, you know, he's about to be nine, but you know, we spent so much time with him and he was obsessed with her. He'd walk in the house and be like, I'm gonna go upstairs and see what March is doing.

and he'd be like knocking on the door, Marta, Marta. And she's like, yeah. I'm like, be nice to him. He's perfect. I find all these videos all the time where he's just like, Marta, watch me, watch me, Marta, watch me. I feel like that's every kid. We remember like when our kids were little and we'd have to take him to the pool and they'd be like, watch me do this jump.

How many times do I have to watch that? I know. Then I get to the point where you suck. Yeah, I'm watching. But your book is up in front of your face. No, I'm watching. I'm watching. That was a shitty one. Try again. Keep going. You're doing great. You're a terrible diver. OK, I have a favorite things this week, which I'm only 15 years behind on this. I have.

found a new show called Parks and Rec with Amy Poehler if you haven't heard of it and the reason I found it, I mean I obviously knew it existed but I had I just had never watched it and then I heard Aubrey Plaza on Amy's podcast this week, good hang.

And they were naming all of the cast members on the show, which I didn't even know who was on the show. And I'm like, why did I never watch that? How did you miss it? It's on repeats all weekend, every weekend. know. So I looked, I went and Googled what year did this start? It started in 2009, which was my first year of teaching. had a kindergartner and a preschooler. I wasn't doing shit except for working and being a mom. So I think I missed it. And then it went from 2009 to 2015. I was just busy.

was just busy. So, of course, I love it. And I didn't realize until Jack told me that it's a Mike Schur. Yeah, it's Mike Schur. If you don't know Mike Schur, he's done The Office, he's done The Good Place, he recently did Man in the Middle with Ted Danson.

Like that's why we were talking about him before on this podcast. Yeah. I was trying to figure out why we were talking about, but man in the middle was the Alzheimer, like when Ted dancing goes into the yeah, he's like a private detective. And I think there's going to be a season two of that, but of course, so I obviously love the show. I've already, I just started it yesterday. I've already been like eight episodes and it's funny cause I don't know the plot at all.

So I was kind of paying attention kind of on my phone and I just pause it. I was like, wait, they just say Leslie Knope's mom is someone on the show? Not her real mom, but like the character mom. And she's like the mayor or something, like she's something big. So I don't know anything. I don't know why Amy's dating this total douche bag named Andy.

Right now he's homeless, living in a pit. No, Amy, she doesn't date. Leslie doesn't date. Not Amy Poehler, the character Amy that is Rashida Jones.

Her name's not Amy. Oh, it's not Amy. I thought it was, but maybe I'm wrong. No, what's her damn name? I just heard, I listened to the Aubrey Plaza thing today too, and they're like... But it's Chris Pratt, who's Andy, and he seems like a total... Anne. Her name's Anne. He seems like a loser. I can't figure out why she's dating him. There was some sex scandal with some politician and he had had sex in a cave and this is so Mike Schurr. Aziz Ansari is on it and he was like, cave sex sounds so cool. And they were like, why? And he was like, echoes and the humidity. I think that's what made me a huge Aziz fan too. Yeah. And I loved his show that he had later on. I can't remember what it was called. Love, love, loved that show.

So my apologies if you already know this because I can't remember who I've told. And I was watching the today show as I do every day and they were talking about this app called Swimpley. Have you heard of this? No. Okay, I guess I haven't told you and Swimpley is an app like

So Swimpley is to pools like Turo is to cars where you can rent out your pool for like an hour at a time or whatever you want. You set up all the ramifications and metrics.

Of course, like as I'm watching the Today Show, I am very impulsive. I don't think things through. I just ZZD and then zip zip done. So I downloaded Swimplay. I went outside, took pictures of my pool. my god. And I just hit, I was like, list. Didn't tell Matt one cheaty thing. So like within an hour,

I labeled it like downtown McKinney shaded oasis. And I overpriced it, because what do I care? So like within an hour, this lady requests my pool for one hour. And I have put the very top, no bathroom. You get it. And the maximum time is one hour, because I don't need anyone peeing in my pool. So this lady, she's like, and they have to tell you why they want to use your pool. So she messages me on the app and she's like, I'm an attorney that lives in downtown McKinney.

I'm an empty nester. Something like, think we have a bunch of mutual friends. And I was like, okay. And she's like, I just, have some time on Sunday. I just want to read in a pool for one hour. So of course I get on Facebook. We have 1 million mutual friends that are like minded if you know what I mean. And so I was like, accept, done and done. So I haven't seen her since. However, I have a new guy. I can say his name. His name is Steve. Oh, by the way, she showed up.

I told her how to... came in today? No, no, no. This was like a couple weeks ago. Oh, how have you not told me I don't know. And so I... That's why we have this segment. Yeah, save it for the pod. So I told her like, I'll keep the side gate unlocked just for while you're here and then I'll lock it back up. And so she walked, she came in the backyard, I kind looked in the window. She literally just read a book for an hour in my book and then left. Then I have another guy.

He's actually a very good client of mine. name is Steve. When you say client, like when you said it like that and you're like, he's actually a very good client of mine. My brain went dirty. You like just went like, I have this client. He's a really good client. He is a really good client. His name is big, big, big. His name is Steve, older gentleman. He just had shoulder surgery and he lives in the hood.

We have mutual friends because I'm obviously going to Google them. And he was like, I need to do rehab on my shoulder because I just had surgery and I would rather do it in your pool than go see someone. So Steve is renting my pool every other day for twenty five dollars. He's a gem. I unlocked the gate for him. He goes in. I never see him. I did for Steve because he is coming every other day. Now I leave a little.

cooler out there with whatever beverages I have in my fridge. A protein shake, a bubbly, whatever. And I'm like, Steve, I left a cooler out there for you because I know you're working really hard on that shoulder. Some waters, some Gatorades. I don't even look to see if he took anything. But he's a consistent customer every other day. How did I not know? I didn't know this was happening. I forgot to tell you. What about the dogs? So we turn the dog door off so they don't go out.

Okay, and it's the max one hour. I don't want you there any longer than that and I don't have a bathroom for you to use You have to bring your own towels all of that shit. Oh My god, why am I not doing this? And it's it's kind of nice because you can Google them first before you hit accept

Oh, feel like I would get people that wanted to bring kids and stuff. I think I, I think I set that metric to no kids. I don't need that in my life.

Okay. So I made some progress with one of my besties that has a dad with Alzheimer's that she she's literally one of my best friends. I talked to her every day and she's never like listened to the pod or anything. Do I know this person? Yeah. Bless I. okay. But like I

Do not blame her one bit. Like she's so supportive. She reposts everything. She's the greatest friend. But we've said this a million times. When you're in it, you don't want to talk about it, right? Like you don't, they're not, they don't want to share their stories. They don't, they don't want to help anyone. I'm just kidding. No, but for real, I don't want to talk about it.

Like it's hard, it sucks. And I think we have a sad episode coming up. But you talk about it all the time. Well, I do, like that's what we were talking about that this morning that you can do this because.

I always say that when I was in the thick of it, I tried. thought I was going to do like a vlog or whatever. Hell no, because it's sad and every day is different and I was a mess and no. But anyway, we were talking about her dad and a couple of weeks ago I went with her to visit her new great nephew and like I got to play with babies. There's a two year old. no, he just turned three. Where's he two?

And then the new baby, yeah, three and then, I don't know, whatever, two. And so I went with her to like visit them and we were talking about how caregivers are the ones that end up getting sick, you know, potentially, you know, dying before the person they're caring for, like all the things because they don't take care of themselves when they're taking care of someone else. And we always try to stress.

taking care of yourself. And her mom is burning the candle at both ends. And her dad is, he's bad. He's not like that bad. Like he doesn't know people, right? Like he's like, knows where everyone, so it's like, you can't bullshit him yet. That's honestly harder. Yes. It's harder. You can't like,

compassionately fib. Right. Because he's still kind of with it. That's the hardest stage of all of it. That's the hardest. Yes. And like his granddaughter got married a couple years ago and he was just like, you know, just last year actually and went to do the dance and he was like, okay, like, you know, I like, don't let me try to dip you or anything. Like he's conscious of the fact that he's not the same man. Yeah. And he was a man. Like he's a man's man.

cars, sports. He's a guy, he's like just a super male. so her mom ends up with like a little health issue and Michelle had to like take her to the ER and stuff. And so it's like, okay, now we're in like, not panic mode yet, but shit's got to change. Because the mom...

can't leave to take care of herself and go to these doctor's appointments without somebody there with dad. So we talked about some, I shared some resources and whatever, because I'm like, do they have a cleaning person? And she was like, no. go, can we fake that you have a cleaning person and have an actual nurse or someone come in?

and be like, they're cleaning the, you know, just to be there. Yes. He's not going to do, he doesn't do reckless things. Physically, is he okay? Yes. Okay. Okay. Yes. Okay. He's the cutest. Yeah. He's so awesome. Like his family is awesome. Like I've known him for, you know,

18 years now or something, 15 years. And like he would come to like my daughter's basketball games because he loves like sports and basketball in particular. And they're just great. Like she's like up. She's going up the roller coaster right now. Yeah. You have to prepare because at some point you're going to start going down because we got to figure we got to take care of mom now. Yeah. Like she. Yeah, she's like has some things going on. It's like, what the fuck do you do?

I don't know. Like it sounds like he's not ready for assisted living. Nope. Is he a veteran? I don't know, honestly. But I said, I go, because remember when Leslie was on the pod, she told us how she was able to take her dad to like the daycare stuff. I don't think we can do that with him yet. He's not there yet. Like we can't fudge.

You know, you can't be like, I remember Leslie saying, they would say like, get your keys, let's, you know, get your wallets, go, you're gonna go to work with the guys or, know, and he went in there and did whatever. And I think it's honestly harder when they're.

they still have a spouse. Like when my mom was in that stage, she was single. So it was very easy to say, well, it's not safe for you to live alone. We're moving you. Yeah. She was still pretty with it when we moved her. But what do you do when you have a house and a spouse? I don't know. In a mouse. What are we, Dr. Susan? We're going to get banned. I don't know. It's like, and it's so cute because

Her mom finally, finally this week said, do you think Sue would like have any idea of like, like any resources or whatever? Michelle's like, yeah, absolutely. Like, but we're still like tiptoeing like to share it. Like I sent her big list of stuff mostly from like Alzheimerorganization.com, know, allzorg, allz.com, whatever it is.

And it has like, know, places where you can call and, you know, get day help or, you know, play, you know. That's what he needs. He needs someone in the house cleaning. But really not cleaning. I know. That's what he needs. Like, I think he could handle that fib. It's just like someone in there. And maybe they could clean. Maybe they could do double duty. Just keep an eye on him. So she could go to the doctor or whatever she needs to do.

I know it's like we're really getting into the and Michelle's in town very close to them, but other family is not. They're like at least like 45 minutes away, know, it's raising, raising kids and you know, it's like, it's, told her, I looked at her the other day. could, your story is not any different than anyone that we've had on. common. Yeah. And, you know, her mother, they're not looking for like,

support system. know what I mean? Like they just need like that. Yeah. It's so, it breaks my heart. mean, they're all so awesome. It's just the worst. I know, but it was like a big step for her to even ask like, should I start looking into something? Like she's not in denial about it. Like this is a situation. I got sick. No one's there for him. We got to have a backup. Yeah.

And you know, lucky that it was just that that made him like look into more help or whatever, because a lot of times it's like an accident or a fall or a car accident or something like that. Yeah. Wait, is he still driving? I think Bob's still going around the block a few times. I mean, that's a whole, whole other beast. It's so hard. I know. like, we can, we.

There's like, literally, like there's no judgment because like, mean, I know my parents probably had their license a lot longer than they should have. my mom was driving way longer than she And it's so easy. Like we could sit here and be like, take the keys. Yeah. It's like, it's so hard. It's so hard. That's what I say that all the time about my mom. I was so thankful because she just immediately said, I don't want to hurt somebody. Yeah. And that's not common. No, I know. And I was surprised because

If you've heard this pod before, my mom was like a car person. She collected old cars and driving was her hobby. Or you have, we have friend of the pod, Sherry, who was like, do I have cognition issues? Let me go take a driving test. That was for people who think they might have cognition issues. He knows he has Alzheimer's or decline for sure because I think at the beginning of when they're trying to get diagnosis, they thought like Parkinson, you know, it like doing all that stuff.
